The invitation to blossom arrives when the consequences of staying the same are more painful than the process of moving forward. Change is painful. Growth is painful. But nothing is more painful than staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.

On the other side of all that risk and fear is freedom.

The image of a bud, closed and clenched, is the perfect metaphor for being closed off to change. We stay stuck in our bud when we hold onto a pattern that causes pain. Eventually when the pain becomes too much, it leads us somewhere: it leads us to blossom. When we start our recovery, we choose to blossom, because our old life and patterns are no longer serving us.
